👷 A Woman on Site: What It’s Really Like
When I first walked onto a Calgary construction site as a builder, I felt like an outsider. I wasn’t just a newcomer—I was a woman, a Chinese immigrant, and an engineer-turned-developer in an industry that didn’t expect me.

Cold weather, dirty boots, being ignored or mistaken for a translator—these were my early days. But instead of fighting it, I leaned in.

I asked questions others were too proud to ask. I watched. I learned. I helped tradespeople solve real construction problems using my engineering background. Slowly, I earned their respect—not with titles, but with action.

💡 Turning Setbacks into Strengths
What I thought were weaknesses became my superpowers:

  • I listened more closely to families and tenants when designing layouts.

  • I could balance practicality with beauty—especially in custom home projects.

  • I asked, “Who will live here? What will this feel like every day?”

  • For investor clients, I guided them through rentability, resale value, and long-term maintenance.

Over time, these insights helped me design homes that weren’t just buildable—they were lovable and livable.

By working through dozens of real-world projects—townhouses, basement suites, garage suites, and full custom homes—I’ve developed a construction style that’s now become our brand:

🏡 Building Raynow Homes
In 2019, I launched Raynow Homes, a licensed Alberta construction company. Since then, we’ve:

  • Built over 50+ multi-unit rental units in Calgary and Banff

  • Renovated 10+ homes, including laneway and legal suites

  • Delivered everything from duplexes to custom homes

  • Navigated CMHC multi-unit mortgage insurance programs

  • Expanded into high-end custom home building with 8-month delivery timelines

Each home, each permit, each inspection taught me something new—and helped build the trust of a growing client base.
